🐝 So this little beauty just took on a whole new level of appreciation!
You know I love bees, but lately since being here I’ve been stung twice now and I am reacting to them for some reason.
My usual go-to has been Lavender and Purify and they’ve been easing it a little, but I had just seen on another page about Past Tense for stings, so I tried it and it worked amazingly. Just a while ago, before applying it, my hand was inflamed and I couldn’t really use it… now it’s freed up and the pain has gone!
🌿 What’s in Past Tense (and why it helps)
Past Tense is dōTERRA’s tension blend, already diluted in fractionated coconut oil in a handy roller. It’s typically used for head and neck tension, but the combination works beautifully on a sting too:
– Wintergreen: cooling and soothing to sore, tender areas
– Peppermint: that lovely icy cooling sensation that takes the heat out
– Frankincense: calming to redness and puffy, angry looking skin
– Lavender: the “swiss army knife” of oils, soothing to irritated skin
– Basil, Marjoram, Rosemary, Roman Chamomile and more: calming, comforting supporting oils
🧡 Why Lavender and Purify help too
Lavender is soothing and calming to skin, and Purify is a cleansing blend, so they’re a great backup if you don’t have Past Tense on hand.
👩⚕️ What to do if you get stung, step by step
- Move away calmly from where the bees are.
- Get the stinger out as quickly as you can by scraping sideways with a fingernail or a card. Try not to squeeze it with tweezers, as that pushes more venom in.
- Wash the area with soap and cool water.
- Roll on Past Tense around the sting (or a drop of Lavender mixed with a little carrier oil).
- Pop a cold compress or some ice wrapped in a cloth on it for 10 minutes.
- Reapply every few hours as needed, and keep your hand or arm raised if it’s swelling.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: If you or someone else has trouble breathing, swelling of the face, lips or throat, dizziness or hives spreading over the body after a sting, call emergency services straight away. That’s an allergic reaction and needs urgent medical help, not oils.
Another use for Past Tense, as it’s typically used for head tension relief!! 😁
