🦷 I visited the dentist last week and got some minor work done, and was reminded to get back into the habit of this ancient method once more… OIL PULLING!
Oil pulling is an old Ayurvedic practice of swishing oil around your mouth to pull out the nasties. It helps leave your mouth and gums feeling clean, fresh and healthy!
So combine this technique with MYRRH oil and you’ve got a powerhouse duo! 💜
💧 A little about Myrrh
Myrrh is one of the oldest aromatics known to us. It comes from the resin of the Commiphora myrrha tree, a small, tough tree that grows wild in the dry lands of North East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
The bark is carefully cut, the tree “weeps” its resin in little tears, and once they harden they are hand collected and steam distilled into the oil.
It was once worth as much as gold! It was one of the gifts of the three wise men, and the ancient Egyptians used it in their rituals too.
🌍 Why we choose dōTERRA’s Myrrh
With an oil this ancient and precious, where it comes from REALLY matters.
Every bottle of dōTERRA Myrrh is CPTG (Certified Pure Tested Grade) tested for purity, and you can even look up the test results for your own bottle’s batch on dōTERRA’s Source to You website. No fillers, no synthetic fragrance… just pure Myrrh.
Did you know Myrrh is also one of the oils in our On Guard toothpaste? 😁
✨ Myrrh is beautiful for your skin too
It’s not just for gums! Myrrh has been used for centuries to care for skin, and it’s one of my favourites for:
– Dry, cracked heels, elbows and knuckles
– Rough cuticles and nails (that’s why we put it in our Myrrh Hand & Nail Lotion!)
– Chapped lips in winter
– Adding to your night cream for smooth, nourished, glowing looking skin
Simply add 1 to 2 drops to a teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil or your favourite moisturiser and massage in.
👄 How to oil pull with Myrrh, step by step
- Do it first thing in the morning, before you eat or drink anything.
- Take a heaped teaspoon of good quality coconut oil and add 3 drops of Myrrh.
- Pop it in your mouth and let it melt.
- Swish and swizzle it around your teeth and gums until you can’t swizzle no more! At least 8 minutes, and work up to 15 to 20 minutes if you can.
- Then most importantly SPIT IT OUTSIDE OR INTO A BIN… do not swallow it (it’s full of what you’ve just pulled out!) and don’t spit it down the sink, as it will harden and solidify in your pipes!
- Rinse with warm water and brush your teeth as usual.
We like to do this 3 to 4 times a week.
⚠️ A couple of notes
Oil pulling is a lovely addition to brushing, flossing and your dentist visits, not a replacement for them. If you’re pregnant, check with your health practitioner before using Myrrh, and always do a little patch test before using a new oil on your skin.
Happy oil pulling! 💜
