🧂 A pinch of Celtic salt throughout the day, onto my tongue and then drink water!
We sweat, pee and cry salt… so it’s essential to replace salt in our bodies, the RIGHT way.
🌊 So what is Celtic salt?
Celtic salt (or “sel gris”, grey salt) is a natural sea salt hand harvested along the coast of Brittany in France. Sea water flows into shallow clay-lined ponds, the sun and wind do their thing, and the salt is gently raked by hand, the same way it’s been done for centuries.
That’s why it’s a little grey and a little damp… it still holds onto its moisture and the minerals from the sea and the clay. Nothing stripped out, nothing added. ❤️
⭐️ The benefits of Celtic salt
– Naturally mineral rich: as well as sodium it contains magnesium, potassium, calcium and lots of trace minerals, which play a part in keeping your electrolytes balanced and your cells happy.
– Supports hydration: our bodies need sodium and minerals to actually hold onto the water we drink. Pure water alone, especially after a sweaty day, isn’t always enough!
– Supports digestion: salt helps your body make stomach acid, which you need to break down your food properly.
– Unrefined: regular table salt is heavily processed, stripped of its minerals and often has anti-caking agents added. Celtic salt is just… salt from the sea.
– A touch less sodium per teaspoon: because of its moisture and mineral content, it has slightly less sodium than refined salt, spoon for spoon. It is still salt though, so enjoy it in balance!
– Tastes AMAZING: it has a softer, rounder, more “oceany” flavour, so a little goes a long way.
💧 How we use it, step by step
Our morning hydration ritual:
- Fill a large glass with around 500ml of filtered water.
- Add a small pinch of Celtic salt (just a pinch!) and a squeeze of lemon or a drop of dōTERRA Lemon oil.
- Stir, and drink it before your coffee.
Throughout the day:
– A tiny pinch on the tongue, then a big glass of water, especially after exercise, a sauna or a hot day.
In the kitchen:
– Use it as a finishing salt on salads, roasted veg and eggs.
– Add a pinch to your raw cacao treats… a little salt makes chocolate taste even more chocolatey! 🍫
💡 Our tips
– Store it in a glass or ceramic jar. Because it’s moist it can clump, and it can corrode metal grinders, so use a ceramic grinder or a little pinch bowl.
– If it’s clumping, spread it on a tray and let it dry out in a warm spot.
– Celtic salt isn’t iodised like some table salt, so make sure you’re getting iodine from other foods like seaweed, eggs and seafood.
⚠️ If you have high blood pressure, a heart or kidney condition, or you’ve been told to watch your salt, check with your doctor before adding extra salt to your day.
